What's in This Guide

[Anna May Wong was the first Chinese-American movie star. Wong and other Asian-American actors during the so-called "classic" era struggled to find a place in Hollywood. Great Moments in Film
The Dickson Experimental Sound Film is the first movie ever made to have synchronized sound and images. Made in 1894 or 1895 in the Edison studios, it shows a man playing a violin into a primitive recording device while two studio assistants dance. Click the "Watch on YouTube" or Fullscreen buttons at the bottom of the widget to see a larger version, which makes the informative introductory text easier to read (or check out the Library's set of Edison's early films).
Check Your Spelling
Proper spelling is critical when using a library database. A simple spelling error will cause your search terms not to be found.
